Vaccinations and Operations for Dogs

Five serious infectious diseases threaten your dog throughout its life.

They are:

1.Canine Distemper

2.Infectious Canine Hepatitis

3.Canine Parvovirus Infection

4.& 5. Two forms of Leptospirosis

The first three are caused by viruses, the two forms of Leptospirorsis are caused by bacteria. In addition, Parainfluenza Virus is an important cause of ‘Kennel Cough’ – a highly contagious respiratory infection which, as the name suggests, often affects dogs during kennelling.

During the first few weeks after birth, a puppy is usually protected by antibodies received from its mother’s first milk. This protection however, wears off quite soon and when it has disappeared, puppies may fall victim to any of these diseases for which there is no certainty of successful treatment. A particularly distressing feature of some of these illnesses is that damage can often be caused to puppies which may not become apparent until later in life. Prevention by vaccination is therefore all the more important and should be started in puppyhood and maintained by annual booster doses throughout the animal’s life.

  • Immunity following the first vaccination course does not last for life. Re-vaccination is vital.
  • For continuous immunity against leptospirosis a booster injection is needed ANNUALLY.

When you bring your dog into be vaccinated we will give it a health check before giving it the inoculation.

We will send you an annual booster reminder card to let you know when your dog’s next vaccination is due.

Vaccination courses are normally started at 10 weeks of age with the second dose at 12 weeks. The cost of this primary vaccination course is £46.20 this includes VAT. If the puppy is considered at extra risk maybe started as early as six weeks of age and the second dose at 10weeks.

Your dog will require an annual booster vaccination to keep up the protection these boosters vary slightly on alternative years and cost £26.20 or £31.50

IDENTICHIP

The identichip system has been developed to reunite lost pets with their owners quickly. Your pet is implanted with a specially developed microchip tag. Inserting the chip the size of a grain of rice under the skin is no more painful than an injection.

The unique number carried by the chip is stored on a national computer network along with your name and address. It is quite simply the quickest, surest way of getting your lost pet back safe and sound.

  • Price of Identichip implantation and lifetime registration - £16.90
  • Special Price vaccination course, identichip and wormer - £60.90.
  • Special Price Identichip implantation and lifetime registration given with a booster - £13.90
